ποιητικη，在柏拉圖看來算是一種「術」，在gorgias 502b-d，ποιητικη是由唱段、旋律、韻腳、言語、所組成的，其目的是為了滿足觀眾底欲望，討好觀眾，而無教化的功能，進言之，算是一種更為厲害的修辭術。是術，是一種奉承。對亞理斯多德來說，ποιητικη則是一門「學」，它不僅有言語、唱段，還有情節、性格、思想、場景。其目的不是在藉由言語來滿足觀眾的欲望，反倒是藉著情節來淨化觀眾的欲望。故是一門技藝之學。
所以我們不能單憑字義來判斷ποιη-τικη是詩學還是詩術，應當要看它底組成內含及目的如何方能決定。這個分辨，關鍵就在於如何定義一門技藝。
一門技藝(τεχνη),可以是一門學，也可以是一門術。前者考察事物的原因(αιτια)、性質(φυσις)、合理性(λογος)。後者則專注於感覺上的體驗(εμπειρια)。前者底目的在於「善」(αγαθον)，後者底目的在於「樂」(ηδονη)。換言之，「學」與「術」之區別，正在於「善」與「樂」的區別。參考gorgias 500e-1b

倫理學算不算是一門技藝之學
按照柏拉圖對話錄，gorgias 503e-504c的看法，倫理學當然是一門技藝之學。畫家、建築師、造船工、...賦予各自底對象以秩序與紀律，才能完成其作品。若以身體為對象，以其健康，則有體育教練和醫生；若以靈魂為照料的對象，則是政治家。包括司法[追求正義]、立法[訴諸節制]。這些也都是倫理學中的德性範疇。
各種不同的技藝有一些原理是相通的，不論是以物、以身、以心、為對象，都是一樣。蘇格拉底在論及靈魂該如何對待時，先以生活上眾所周知的道理為命題，再以類比的方法推出那麼對待靈魂也應該是一樣的結論。
追求身體的健康與追求靈魂的健康，道理是一樣的。因為它們都是一種技藝之學。

蘇格拉底是怎麼死的？
一般認為，他是喝毒酒死的。為何要喝毒酒？因他選擇了死刑。誰判他死刑？法官。什麼罪名？罪名有三：1. 敗壞青年。2. 不信城邦的神。3. 信仰自己的神。誰告他？辯士、修辭學家、或智者們。確實有罪？沒有，是誣告的。為了什麼？為了證明一件事。什麼事？證明哲學之無用，修辭學才有用。如何無用？學哲學之無用，不是僅僅在謀生方面，找不工作上講的；更嚴重的是，哲學不能為自己或他人申張正義，甚至不能為自己的生命予以解救。進言之，蘇格拉底不是死於毒酒、不是死於所犯的罪行、不是死於誣陷的智者們、或無知的法官手上；而是死於對哲學無用之實證上。
若人一生唯一重要的功課是追求智慧，這是達到幸福的唯一道路；那麼，蘇格拉底，你就用你的哲學來救你自己呀？蘇格拉底是死於一場實驗性的死亡遊戲；智者們在口頭上辯不過蘇格拉底，那麼就來實證地檢證看看，到底誰的知識才是對人生有用的。若你救不了自己，就足以證明你所言的哲學至上說是假的；用什麼罪行告你並不重要，你是選擇放逐還是死刑並不重要，甚至你想不想逃走也無所謂；祗要你放棄了以哲學之名來為自己辯護，你就輸了；那些辯士們才可以在青年面前扳回一城、一雪前恥。
最後，蘇格拉底終究如智者的願、也如自己的願、死了，但到底是誰贏了？蘇格拉底為了捍衛哲學而死，哲學輸了嗎？蘇格拉底死後，智者們贏了嗎？
